Steps to complete the challenge

The RIO Undergraduate Program is a 3-year (6 Terms in total) liberal arts program.

In Terms #1 and #2, students will be taking the core courses of this program.

From the Term #3 onwards, students will choose which Major and Minor they wish to specialise in, and enroll to the courses relevant to those Majors and Minors.

As the program administrator, you will need to configure the Study Pathway to recommend the Study Units (courses) that students should take for each Term.

  1. Click on the 'RIO Challenge v4' tab at the bottom left of the page. Click on 'Initiate Challenge' to generate the data required for this challenge.

  2. From the App Launcher at the top left of the page, search for ‘Study Programs’.

Select the list view ‘C02.08 - Study Pathway Setup’. Click to open the record created for this challenge.

  3. The Study Program is a record that represents an academic program, which in this case, is the Undergraduate Program.

Navigate to the ‘Versions’ tab, and click to open the Study Plan ‘C02.08 - RIO Undergraduate Program Plan’.

  4. The Study Plan is a record that outlines the program structure.

These include the courses that students must take, and what are their enrollment requirements (if any).

From the Study Plan record, navigate to the ‘Program Structure’ tab.

Notice the list of Study Plan Structure records. These are the courses that make up the program structure.

    • For the related RIO Challenge on setting up these Study Plan Structures, see:
      • C02.06 - Study Program Setup.
      • C02.07 - Study Program with Discipline Setup.

  5. Navigate to the ‘Configuration’ tab.

Scroll further down, to find the Study Pathway record.

The Study Pathway is where we define which courses and how many credits that students should take per Term.

Click to enter into the ‘C02.08 - Full-Time’ record.

  6. Review the details of this Study Pathway.

This is the default Study Pathway for the Undergraduate Program Plan, and is currently active.

This means that when students enroll in the Undergraduate Program, this will be their Study Pathway.

  7. On the ‘Pathway Configuration’ tab, notice that there are 6 Study Pathway Terms.

There is 1 Study Pathway Term for each Term, since this program lasts 6 Terms.

Given that the Undergraduate Program Plan requires 120 credits for completion, students are recommended to complete 20 credits each Term.

In other words, students who are doing their Term #1, will be following what Study Pathway Term #1 recommends them to take.

Students doing Term #2, will be following what Study Pathway Term #2 recommends, and so on.

  8. Click to open the Study Pathway Term for Term #1.

Recall earlier that students who are in their Term #1, will need to take Study Units (courses) from the ‘Foundation Core’ and ‘AoE’ groups.

Therefore, create 2 Study Pathway Units, for Study Pathway Term #1.

Create one to recommend students to complete any 3 Study Units from the ‘Foundation Core’ group…

Study Plan Group C02.08 - Foundation Core
Number of Units from Group 3
Applicable Study Plan C02.08 - RIO Undergraduate Program Plan

…and create another one to recommend students to complete any 7 Study Units from the ‘AoE’ group.

Study Plan Group C02.08 - AoE
Number of Units from Group 7
Applicable Study Plan C02.08 - RIO Undergraduate Program Plan

  1. Review the 2 Study Pathway Units you have just created, which indicates that the students should take 10 Study Units in total for Term #1 (where 3 are from Foundation Core, and 7 are from AoE).

The Study Units from these 2 groups ('Foundation Core' and ‘AoE’) carry 2 credits each.

So, by taking these 10 Study Units, students will complete 10 x 2 = 20 credits, thus meeting the recommended amount for this Term.

  2. While still in the Study Pathway Term record for Term #1, click on the ‘Study Pathway’ field, to return to the ‘C02.08 - Full-Time’ record.

  3. Then, navigate to the ‘Pathway Configuration’ tab and review the 6 Study Pathway Terms.

Recall earlier that from Term #3 onwards, students will be taking Study Units from Majors and Minors.

Students can choose their preferred Major to take.

This means that the Study Pathway Units for Term #3 - 6 will need to recommend Study Units from all the Majors and Minors that are available for students to choose in this program.

  4. Click to enter into the Study Pathway Term record for Term #4.

Notice that Study Units from the Minor has already been recommended.

However, no Study Units from the Majors are recommended yet.

In Term #4, students will need to take the core Study Units from their selected Major.

There are 2 available Majors for students to choose.

Thus, create 2 Study Pathway Units to recommend Study Units from the ‘Core’ group of the 2 available Majors.

Applicable Study Plan C02.08 - Major in International Studies

Study Plan Group C02.08 - Major in Literary and Cultural Studies_Core

  1. The Study Pathway Term for Term #4 now recommends any 3 core Study Units from the Major, and any 1 core Study Unit from the Minor.

  2. Students can also be recommended to complete a specific Study Unit.

For example, students are recommended to complete ‘DI205’ in their Term #4.

Therefore, create another Study Pathway Unit, this time to specify a particular Study Unit to take:

Study Unit C02.08 - DI205 - Discover Australia Program
Applicable Study Plan C02.08 - RIO Undergraduate Program Plan

  1. The Study Pathway setup is complete.

We have defined that in Term #1, students need to take 3 Study Units from the ‘Foundation Core’ group, and 7 Study Units from the ‘AoE’ group.

We also defined that in Term #4, students need to take 3 Study Units from the ‘Core’ group of the 2 available Majors, depending on which one they choose.

Students also need to take ‘DI205’ in Term #4.

Let’s take a look at how students will view the list of recommended Study Units, based on their current Term.

  2. From the App Launcher at the top left of the page, search for ‘Individual Program Enrollments’.

Select the list view ‘C02.08 Study Pathway Setup’ and open the Individual Program Enrollment record created for Fred Smith.

  3. Fred Smith is a new student who is just starting his Term #1.

    Navigate to the “Enrollments” tab.

Ensure that the 1st tile is selected, which represents Fred Smith's Term #1.

Set the Listing Mode = Pathway.

Notice that the Enrollment Wizard is recommending the ‘Foundation Core’ and ‘AoE’ groups.

This is because we have defined earlier that Study Units from these 2 groups are recommended for Term 1 and 2.

    Note:

    • If the Listing Mode is set to ‘All’, then, all other available Study Units will be displayed.

This is because setting the Listing Mode to ‘All’ (instead of ‘Pathway’) will ignore the Study Pathway.

Instead of seeing only the recommended Study Units, you can see all the other Study Units.

  4. Now, let’s see what an ongoing student will see instead, for their Term #4.

Click ‘Back’ to return to the list of Individual Program Enrollments.

Select the list view ‘C02.08 Study Pathway Setup’ and open the Individual Program Enrollment record created for John Doe.

  5. John Doe is an ongoing student who is doing his Term #4.

    Navigate to the “Enrollments” tab.

Ensure that the 4th tile is selected, which represents John Doe's Term #4.

Set the Listing Mode = Pathway.

  6. Notice that the interface is recommending John Doe to take 3 Study Units (courses) from the ‘Major in International Studies_Core’ group, which we set up earlier in step #12.

    Note:

Recall that in step #12 earlier, we have also recommended the Major in Literary and Cultural Studies.

Why is it not displayed here?

This is because John Doe has chosen the Major in International Studies, thus, the other Major is not relevant to him.

  7. Also, notice that a specific Study Unit ‘DI205’ is displayed as a recommendation.

This is because we have recommended a specific Study Unit for Term #4, as seen in step #14.

In other words, the Study Pathway Unit allows you to either recommend students to take:

    • an amount of Study Units (courses) from a group,,
      or,
    • a specific Study Unit (course).

  8. Congratulations, you have completed the challenge! Click on the 'RIO Challenge v4' tab at the bottom left of the page, and click on 'Complete Challenge'.
