Overview

The Program Transition with Course Replacement feature ensures that a student's academic progress is preserved when transitioning to a new Program Plan that replaces one course with another.

During the Program Transition process, the system evaluates the student's enrolment history and determines whether a course replacement should be recorded or whether a new Course Connection (CC) should be created based on the student's completion status.

How It Works

This is a new feature introduced in RIO Education v3.24

When a Program Transition is performed, the system compares the student's existing Program Plan with the new Program Plan.

If a course in the existing Program Plan has been replaced by a different course in the new Program Plan, the system determines the appropriate action based on the student's enrolment status for the original course.

Prerequisites

  1. The replacement course is configured as a mandatory Plan Requirement - Course in the new Program Plan.
  2. Before performing a Program Transition with course replacement, the replacement courses must be configured in an Auto Transfer Agreement.

Scenario 1 – Original Course Completed

Example

Existing Program Plan Existing Course New Program Plan Replacement Course
ME v2 2026 BUS105 ME v1 2027 CIM105

Preconditions

  • The student has completed BUS105 with a positive grade.
  • BUS105 is replaced by CIM105 in the new Program Plan.

Existing Behaviour

During Program Transition:

  1. A PE Course Replacement record is created linking BUS105 to CIM105.
  2. No Course Connection (CC) is created for CIM105, as the completed BUS105 satisfies the replacement requirement.
  3. The existing Course Connection for BUS105 remains unchanged.
  4. No Credit Transfer reference is added to the existing Course Connection.

Scenario 2 – Original Course Not Enrolled

Preconditions

  • The student has not enrolled in BUS105 (no Course Connection or result exists).
  • BUS105 is replaced by CIM105 in the new Program Plan.

Existing Behaviour

During Program Transition:

  1. A Course Connection (CC) is created for CIM105 according to the new Program Plan.
  2. No PE Course Replacement record is created because the student had not previously enrolled in BUS105.
