Implementing RIO in different languages
Running RIO in Spanish, French, German, Portguese or more..... this will help.
Table of Contents
Communities translation
Communities can be translated into other languages. Salesforce help has some good information on how to set up languages in the Community. Read more here.
The Lightning components that we develop for the Community also are translatable.
Translatable labels
We typically use Custom Labels for most of the user-facing fields in components, to allow for translation. This translation is done using the following methods as described in the Salesforce help here.
Additionally in the latest (Spring 21) release of Salesforce, page layout in lightning (Tabs) feature is now able to use labels.
These can also be added and translated.
For a full list of Labels used in RIO Education, take a look at the custom labels tab in the Custom Objects and Fields file that is shared.
Contact us if you need RIO Education translated into a language not currently available.
Translation guidelines: Import-export files
Overview
To update the translation in Salesforce (not Communities), update RIO to your latest version, export .stf translation file from your instance, and send it to your translators to update each individual field to your version of Salesforce. When you receive the updated .stf file, import it to your instance.
Steps
Login into your Salesforce instance.
Go to Setup, Look for “Translation” and [User interface>Translation workbench>Translation Language Settings]. If the workbench is not enabled, enable it. If the language to be translated to is not available, press Add. Mark as active for the language in [Edit>Language Active].
Go to [User interface>Translation workbench>Export]. Select [Export Type: Bilingual] and export as STF. You will receive a notification by email and a link with a zip file with multiple .stf, then select [View] to download. Send the file to your translator.
Next, import the updated file into Salesforce. [User interface>Translation workbench>Import], select the .stf file and import. Wait for a while and you will be notified by email. If any error is notified, send it to your translator to update the file.
Go to your current User > Settings > Language. Select the language that matches the language to translate.

Consideration
Most of the components in RIO Education are translatable by translation workbench - an out-of-the-box translation tool in Salesforce. This includes:
- Custom field (field label, help text).
- Picklist Values.
- Button Or Link.
- Custom App Label.
- Custom Tab Label.
- Record Type Label.
- Validation Rule's alert messages.
- Custom Label and etc.
However, the custom object name is not translatable using the translation workbench. This can be done manually using the following steps:
- Navigate to Customize >>> Tab Names and Labels >>> Rename Tabs and Labels.
- From there, you can toggle between the different languages and translate your object labels via Tab labels.
