Description Resolution

Description

When considering a Program Plan‍ change for a student, two main options usually arise. Both options take for granted that the new Program Plan has already been created and that said Program Plan is different from the original one:

  1. Generating a new Program Enrollment for the student, applying Auto Credit Transfer to bring results of the passed Courses across and finally, withdrawing the student from the former Program Plan.

  2. The alternative that often comes to users' minds is to 're-cycle' the existing Program Enrollment by changing the Program Plan it is linked to. This is the method this article refers to.
So, do I change Program Plan on a Program Enrollment?

Resolution

Given a particular Program Enrollment, changing the Program Plan that is linked to it is not recommended, as RIO Education does not provide the necessary background automations to make this work properly. This is especially critical for students with Course Connections/Enrollments.

In other words, some of the necessary data will not be generated/regenerated if you change the Program Plan at Program Enrollment level.

So what to do then?

Scenario example:

A student signs up for Bachelors of Art 2019 and couldn't finish it, and now this student needs to proceed with a new Bachelors of Art 2022.

Solution:

Do not change the Program Plan on the Program Enrollment.

A new Program Enrollment with a new Program Plan would have to be created. Credit transfer would also need to be done for those Courses that the student has completed previously.

When the new Program Enrollment is up and running, plus the necessary credits have been transferred, consider cancelling the existing Program Enrollment as well.
