How to continue Courses?
Use Case
A Course that spans for 2 Terms or consist of 2 parts where the students have to do it for 2 Terms or 2 parts in order to complete the whole Course. For example:
BUS1012 Innovation Business is a 2-part Course. Each part is offered in different Terms. So, if Fred the student is interested in completing this Course, he will need to complete each parts in different Terms. His final result/completion of the Course will only be determined in the final part.
Solution
Step 1: Create the Course as 2 separate records in Course.
- Go to the "Courses" tab.
- Click "New" to start creating the 1st Course record (1st part). You can name is as "BUS1012-1 Innovation Business (Part 1)".
Note: If you already have a Course record created from legacy migration, you can rename it to indicate as part 1.
- Repeat #2 to start creating the 2nd Course record (2nd part). You can name is as "BUS1012-2 Innovation Business (Part 2)".
Step 2: Create Course Offerings for both the Courses created in Step 1.
- Go to the 1st Course record created, in this case "BUS1012-1 Innovation Business (Part 1)" and create a Course Offering for it.
- Go to the 2nd Course record created, in this case "BUS1012-2 Innovation Business (Part 2)" and create a Course Offering for it.
Step 3: Schedule the Sessions for the Course Offerings created in Step 2.
- Use the Session Scheduler to schedule the Sessions for both the Course Offerings - assign facilities and faculties.
Step 4: Include the Courses created in Step 1 as part of the Plan Requirement.
- Go to the Academic Program record.
- Click on the "Program Versions" tab.
- Select the version (Program Plan) that you are going to update.
- When you are in that record, click on the "Program Structure" tab.
- Expand the list by click "View All".
- Select the group that you are going to include these Courses as part of the requirement e.g. Core Requirements, General Electives etc.
- When you are in that record, click on the "Courses" tab.
- Click "New" > Course > Enter the relevant details:
- Plan Requirement Name: the name of the Plan Requirement e.g. "BUS1012-1: Innovation Business (Part 1)".
- Program Plan: search and select the Program version that you have selected in #3.
- Parent Plan Requirement: leave as is; this should be the value you have selected in #6.
- Course: search and select the Course record that you have created in Step 1 i.e. "BUS1012-1 Innovation Business (Part 1)".
- Category: the type of requirement - required or optional.
- Credits: subject to what you want the student to get when completing this requirement. If the student will only get the full credits at the end of part 2, then you can set this as 0.
- Repeat the above #6 - #8 for part 2 of the Course by entering the following details:
- Plan Requirement Name: the name of the Plan Requirement e.g. "BUS1012-2: Innovation Business (Part 2)".
- Program Plan: search and select the Program version that you have selected in #3.
- Parent Plan Requirement: leave as is; this should be the value you have selected in #6.
- Course: search and select the Course record that you have created in Step 1 i.e. "BUS1012-2 Innovation Business (Part 2)".
- Category: the type of requirement - required or optional.
- Credits: the credits that the student will obtain when completing this final part.
