Terminology of common objects

Object Description
Account
(Educational Institution)


A university, college, or educational institution, e.g. "RIO University".
The highest level Account in terms of hierarchy.

Account
(University Department)


A department within a university, e.g. "School of Business".
Should belong under the Educational Institution.

Account
(Location)


A campus, e.g. "Sydney Campus".
Should belong under the Educational Institution.

Account
(Academic Program)


A program, e.g. "Bachelor of Business Administration".
Should belong under the University Department.

Contact

Can be an applicant, a student, or a faculty (i.e. lecturer).

Facility

A venue such as a classroom or a dormitory.

Term

A semester, e.g. "2023 Term 1".

Course

A template course / subject / module / unit, e.g. "MAT101".

Course Offering

The course that is offered for a specific semester, e.g. "MAT101 - 2023 Term 1".
Students will be enrolling to the Course Offering.

Course Connection

The record of the student's enrollment to the Course Offering.
Contains details on the student's progress and results.

Session

Represents a period of time where classes will be held for a course.
E.g. "MAT101 - Lecture" and "MAT101 - Tutorial".

Session Time

The duration of the Session (i.e. from 20th April to 3rd September).

Session Connection

The record of the student's enrollment to the Session.

Grade Settings

Defines what result corresponds to a range of grades.
E.g. High Distinction for 90 - 100.

Transfer Credits

The transfer of credits from a previously completed course, to another course (at a different university) that is almost similar in syllabus.

Program Application

A student's application to a program.

Program Enrollment

A student's enrollment to a program.
Created automatically when a Program Application is approved.

Program Plan

The structure of a program (i.e. what courses are required, how many semesters).
Belongs under the Academic Program.

Plan Requirement

Defines the courses that need to be completed for a program. Some courses might be mandatory, while some might be optional / electives.

The Plan Requirement (Group) can split these into 'Mandatory' and 'Elective' groups.
Each group will contain their own Plan Requirement (Course), which represent those courses.

Belongs under the Academic Program.

Program Discipline

Represents a Major or Minor.
Belongs under the Academic Program.

Discipline Requirement

Defines the courses that need to be completed for a Major or Minor. Some courses might be mandatory, while some might be optional / electives.

The Discipline Requirement (Group) can split these into 'Mandatory' and 'Elective' groups. Each group will contain their own Discipline Requirement (Course), which represent those courses.

Belongs under the Program Discipline.

Program Pathway

Pathway Unit


Defines the duration of the program.

The Program Pathway specifies how many semesters will there be for the program.
The Pathway Unit specifies which course are recommended to take for a particular semester.

Fee

Fee Schedule

Fee Schedule Term


Fee represents the billed amount that students need to pay for the program or courses (e.g. "Student Fee").

Fee Schedule represents the duration in which the Fee amount applies.
  • In 2023, the amount will be $ 1,000.
  • In 2024, the amount will be $ 1,150.


Fee Schedule Term links the Fee Schedule with the semester.


Funding

Funding Allocation


Funding represents scholarships.

Funding Allocation represents the disbursement of the scholarship to a student.
Holiday

Term Holiday

Location Holiday


Holiday represents an observed holiday where there will be no classes.

Term Holiday links the holiday with a semester. All campuses will observe the holiday during that semester.

Location Holiday links the holiday with a specific campus. Only that campus will observe it.
